‘The Rocket’ named Best Narrative Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival Kim Mordaunt’s ‘The Rocket’ took home the Founders Award as Best Narrative Feature in the world narrative competition at the 12th Tribeca Film Festival. The prizes were handed out at a ceremony held at the Conrad New York in New York yesterday. The story centres on an uprooted family in urban Laos, and the film received $25,000 and the art award “Two Voices #1" by Angelina Nasso, which was presented by festival co-founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. As well as this, the film earned a Best Actor award for the nonprofessional actor Sitthiphon Disamoe. The festival also hailed Dan Krauss’ ‘The Kill Team’ as the Best Documentary Feature in the world documentary competition. For taking the top prize ‘The Kill Team’, which examines how young soldiers are trained for war, Krauss received $25,000, sponsored by Citizens of Humanity, and the art award “Harley Before the White Prom” by Gillian Laub, which was presented by Mira Sorvino and Gareth Baxendale from Citizens of Humanity. George Clooney in talks to collaborate with ‘Argo’ journalist for a second time When actor George Clooney teamed up with producer Grant Heslov to turn an article written by journalist Joshuah Bearman into a film, the result was the multi-award winning and critically acclaimed thriller ‘Argo’. According to film website The Wrap, Clooney and Heslov are now planning on collaborating once again on a Bearman article. It seems that they are planning to produce ‘Coronado High’, a feature film adaptation of Bearman’s upcoming article. Sony Pictures are also in talks to acquire the rights to the film, with Clooney in line to direct. Details remain scarce on the project as the article is yet to be written, but it’s said that the story involves a group of teenagers who are used to smuggle drugs in Coronado, an affluent resort in Southern California. Clooney and Heslov co-founded the production company Smokehouse Pictures back in 2006, and are currently at work on the historical drama, ‘The Monuments Men’, which Clooney is both directing and starring in alongside Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, and John Goodman.
Watch the trailer for ‘White Elephant’, released today in Irish Cinemas The Argentinean film ‘White Elephant’ is released today in selected Irish cinemas. The film competed in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and follows two priests and a social worker who work in a slum area of Buenos Aires, known as Ciudad Oculta. Together they fight to resolve the issues of the neighbourhood’s society. Directed by Pablo Trapero, the film stars Ricardo Darín, Jérémie Renier, and Martina Gusman.
