Next Instalment in TG4’s ‘Scéal’ Development Scheme Will Air Next Week
25 Apr 2013 : By Gearóid Gilmore
Úna Ní Flátharta
The next instalment in TG4’s ‘scéal’ development scheme, ‘Síle’, will air on TG4 next Wednesday.

Úna Ní Flátharta plays the title role and the film centres on the sensitive and vulnerable teenager, Síle, who has never overcome the sudden death of her mother and wishes her life would return to what it was before she died. Her father Dónal (Beartla Ó Flátharta) pampers her like a little girl and this leads to tensions with his girlfriend Áine (Caroline Ní Dhubhchóin), who feels he is over indulging his daughter. Exploring the issues of love and loss, ‘Síle’ is a portrayal of the difficulties faced by stepfamilies today.

The film was directed by Cathal Ó Cuaig, produced by Ciarán O Cofaigh, written by Séamus Moran, and Réamonn Mac Donnacha served as director of photography on the production.

‘Scéal’ is a development scheme by TG4 that granted six Irish-speaking writers and directors the opportunity to each adapt a well-known story from Irish language literature or folklore into a contemporary setting for a series of half hour short films. The first short film in the series, ‘Bás Artó Leary’, aired yesterday on TG4. The scheme was co-funded by Gréasán na Meán, BAI, and TG4. The directors of each short film were also treated to workshops mentored by established directors such as Declan Recks (Eden), Paddy Breathnach (Shrooms, I Went Down) and Tom Collins (Kings).

‘Síle’ will air next Wednesday on TG4 at 22:00 and again on Monday May 6th at 00:25.
