Time travel science-fiction adventure ‘Dark By Noon’ – filmed in North Dublin on a shoestring budget – has been selected to have its world premiere as the closing film at the International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film, Sci-Fi-London, on 6 May.
Produced by Ikka Films and Vico Films, the film is written and directed by Alan Leonard and Michael O’Flaherty who shot it over eight weeks using sets built from scratch.
Sixteen months of post-production followed to achieve the impressive special effects evident in the finished film, which is based around time-travel and set in an alternate world.
Mr O’Flaherty spoke of his delight at their selection for such a high-profile international event.
‘Sci-Fi-London was one of our top targets to screen ‘Dark By Noon’. The fact that we can close such a prestigious genre festival is exciting and nerve-wracking. The audience at London Sci-Fi are true fans of science fiction - fans who demand respect for the science fiction film worlds. So we can expect an honest reaction. We couldn’t have asked for a better world premiere,’ he said.
The plot revolves around a character named Rez, played by Patrick Buchanan, who becomes involved with a covert government agency that has stolen a device with the ability to send a person eight hours into the future, but only for a short period.
When Rez leaps forward in time and witnesses a nuclear explosion, he returns to his own time and has only eight hours to discover the cause and save the city from destruction.
