Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ secures funding Director Martin Scorsese’s passion project, ‘Silence’, has finally secured funding. Scorsese recently finished shooting the biopic ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, starring long-time collaborator Leonardo Di Caprio and Matthew McConaughey and now, after numerous delays, Scorsese has confirmed that an adaptation of the Shusaku Endo novel will be his next project. Scorsese has reportedly been interested in adapting the novel since 1991, and has considered casting Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio Del Toro, and Gael Garcia Bernal in the film. ‘Silence’ was scheduled for production back in 2007, and again in 2011. Now it seems that Scorsese will finally get the opportunity to shoot the film, with production due to begin in Taiwan in July 2014. Written by Scorsese and Jay Cocks, the story centres on 17th Century Jesuits who risk their lives by travelling to Japan in order to spread Christianity. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ will be released in America in November this year, and should hit Irish screens shortly afterwards.
