‘The O’Briens’ – a feel good comedy about an Irish family, made on a shoestring budget by 24-year-old filmmaker Richard Waters - has been selection as the Irish spotlight film at the Newport Beach film festival in California.
Filmed on location in Galway, the film boasts an impressive cast of up-and-coming Irish actors including Liam McMahon (Hunger, Titanic: Blood and Steel); Kelly Blaise (The Borgias, The Inside) and Amber Jean Rowan (The Vikings, What Richard Did).
The story concerns a dysfunctional modern Irish family living on different sides of the Atlantic who are reunited when the father Pat organises a family reunion at the family farmhouse in Galway, two years after the death of his wife.
Fionn who lives in New York, Gareth who lives in London and Una who is married with two children must each face a personal dilemma, as they are brought back together under the one roof.
The film is written by producers/writers/actors Slaine Kelly (Comedown, The Tudors) and Emmett Hughes; produced by Fionn O'Brien, Ciara Byrne, Richard Kearney and Alison Scarff of Mist Media.
Irish artists Paddy Casey and Roisin O also provided original music for the soundtrack.
