‘Cuckoo’ - an online drama originally part of RTÉ’s Storyland series - has emerged victorious against thousands of international competitors to be nominated for Best Online Drama at this year’s Webby Awards in New York.
Produced by Marie Caffrey of Zanzibar Films, ‘Cuckoo’ is directed by Danann Breathnach based on an original story by Nikki Racklin which the pair adapted for the screen.
The story follows actress Pagan McGrath as wild teenager Niamh Keegan, who recognises herself in a digitally ‘aged’ picture of a missing child, and includes among its cast members IFTA winner Denise McCormack (Love/Hate) and Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones).
The awards ceremony - which will take place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York on 21 May - will be attended by a panel of celebrity judges including David Bowie, Richard Branson, Darren Aronofsky, Arianna Huffington, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Mozilla CEO Mitchell Baker and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom.
Alongside the official Webbys, there will also be a second set of winners, voted for by the general public – the Webby People's Voice Awards - with voting open until 25 April.
