Victoria Smurfit lands role in upcoming indie/comedy film
Irish actress Victoria Smurfit (About a Boy, The Beach, The Clinic) has landed a role in the upcoming indie/comedy film ‘An Unkindness of Ravens’. Based on the novel by British crime writer Ruth Rendell, it features the popular protagonist Inspector Wexford, and the book is the 13th entry in the series. Directed by Russell Friedenberg and Randy Redroad, the film also stars Natalie Imbruglia (Johnny English), Christian Campbell (Big Love), and Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect, Crank). The story centres on a married couple who are struggling with their marriage, and while entertaining a group of friends on the weekend of the 4th of July, secrets are revealed and their lives are irreparably damaged. Smurfit will take on the role of Emma, one of the friends to leading lady Amy Smart.

Columbia Pictures acquires the rights to new WWII drama starring Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt has recently signed on for a role in David Ayer’s upcoming World War II drama ‘Fury’. Columbia Pictures has acquired American distribution rights for the film and has set a November 14th, 2014 release date. Capitalising on the success of last film, ‘End of Watch’, Ayer will also be producing the film. Brad Pitt will play an army sergeant named ‘Wardaddy’ and set in 1945 during the collapse of the Nazi regime, the story centres around the five-man crew of an American army tank called Fury, who are locked in combat with a desperate and disparaged Germany army. Ayer recently finished shooting the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Sam Worthington thriller ‘Ten’, which is set to be released in Ireland early next year. ‘Fury’ will be released at the same time as Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated science fiction film ‘Interstellar’ and the at the same time as the third instalment in the Hunger Games franchise.

Watch the trailer for Ron Howard’s upcoming film ‘Rush’
‘Rush’ is the latest offering from Hollywood veteran Ron Howard, and the film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the intense rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda, played by Daniel Brühl (Goodbye Lenin!, Inglorious Basterds), and British driver James Hunt, played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Snow White and the Huntsman). The story follows their distinctly different personal styles on and off the track and the intense 1976 season in which both drivers risked everything to outdo one another. The film also stars Olivia Wilde and features original music by veteran composer Hans Zimmer. The film is set to released here in September.
