Moone Boy Season 2 to Premiere at Sky Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny
03 Apr 2013 : By Kevin Cronin

Sky broadcasting have entered into a new sponsorship agreement with the annual Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival, which will see the newly-branded ‘Sky Cat Laughs Comedy Festival’ screen the world premiere of season 2 of Chris O’Dowd’s IFTA-winning ‘Moone Boy’.

The new partnership will also introduce a new programming element to the festival, with details yet to be confirmed.

The premiere will be attended by star and co-writer Chris O’Dowd and co-writer and Kilkenny native Nick Vincent Murphy, on whose childhood experiences many of the storylines are based.

‘I’m delighted that the second series of Moone Boy will premiere in my home town. To write this show, Chris and I are constantly mining our childhoods for good stories and fun characters, and growing up in Kilkenny gave me plenty of both. So it seems fitting that Kilkenny comedy-lovers will get the first chance to enjoy it,’ Mr Vincent Murphy said.

Cartoon Saloon, the Oscar-nominated animation studio behind The Secret of Kells, are also based in Kilkenny and created the animated sequences for the comedy series that reflect Martin Moone's sketchbook drawings and imagination.

The world-premiere screening will include the first two episodes of series two of Moone Boy, which won the IFTA award for Best TV Entertainment at this year’s IFTA ceremony.

Moone Boy is produced by Grand Pictures, Baby Cow Productions, Hot Cod Productions and Sprout Pictures for Sky 1.
