Oscars 2013… Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ made history at last night’s Oscars ceremony, becoming the first film to win Best Picture, without a director nomination, since 1989's ‘Driving Miss Daisy’. The CIA thriller, which Affleck produced, directed and starred in, was the frontrunner to win Best Picture at the 85th Academy Awards, after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was condemned by Hollywood for not nominating Affleck in the Director category.

‘Argo’ beat ‘Lincoln’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Amour’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘Django Unchained’ for Best Picture. The award is Affleck’s second Oscar, having won Best Screenplay in 1998 for 'Good Will Hunting', alongside co-writer and co-star Matt Damon. ‘Argo’ was also producer George Clooney’s second Oscar, having won for Best Supporting Actor in 2006 for ‘Syriana’. Grant Heslov also produced on ‘Argo’.

RTÉ Two is broadcasting the Oscars at 9pm tonight. For the full list of winners click here.

‘Longmire’ Is Coming To Irish Screens… US crime drama ‘Longmire’ will air in Ireland and the UK following a deal with Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Warner Brothers. The series, which originally premiered in the US in June 2012, stars Australian actor Robert Taylor (The Matrix) and US actress Katie Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), in the story of a sheriff who returns to his job following the death of his wife. As well as investigating a number of major crimes, he also decides to run for reelection as mayor in his jurisdiction. TCM will begin broadcasting the series next month.

Ant & Dec’s ‘Saturday Night Takeway’ Received Record Ratings… The return of Ant & Dec’s ‘Saturday Night Takeway’ earned 7m viewers on Saturday night, according to Broadcast. The variety show, which was on hiatus since 2009, came back with a bang last Saturday with special guests Danny DeVito, Louis Walsh and Robbie Williams. The show broke the 3.9m slot average for the last 12 months, reports Broadcast. The first episode was also ahead of the previous series of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, which averaged 6.6m viewers in 2009.
