Irish feature film ‘Beat Girl’ is moving to North America, as multimedia studio Electus acquires the format rights to the multiplatform project.
‘Beat Girl’, which has been produced as a book, a web series, a television series and a feature film, has been optioned by Electus, the studio behind MTV series ‘Teen Wolf’, VH1 show ‘Mob Wives’, and NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’ and ‘Get Out Alive with bear Grylls’.
‘Beat Girl’ is a coming-of-age story about a young girl who is torn between her late mother’s dreams of her securing a place in the prestigious Julliard Performing Arts School, and becoming a world class pianist in the pulsating world of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Louise Dylan stars in the TV and web series and feature film.
The beActive project was made available on Pinterest last year, making it the first scripted series ever on the social networking site. The original television series and the film rights are being sold internationally by Content Media, and a music album and smart phone game are due out in spring.
The feature film will be released in Irish, UK and Portuguese cinemas in May.
BeActive’s Triona Campbell said: “We really couldn’t ask for a better team than Electus in terms of translating this initial success into a unique series for US audiences and bringing the ‘Beat Girl’ world to the next level. The timing is also great in that we are announcing this on the same day as we are celebrating out 10th year of working in the Transmedia space”.
The ‘Beat Girl’ deal is the second US format sale for beActive, which previously sold the format rights for another multiplatform series ‘Sofia’s Diary to Sony Pictures and Television in LA.
