Irish actors Allen Leech and Brendan Coyle were among the winners at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The duo won Outstanding Performance By An Ensemble In A Drama Series along with their ‘Downton Abbey’ co-stars, triumphing over ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Mad Men’, ‘Homeland’ and ‘Breaking Bad’.
Leech, from Dublin, attended the event in LA last night to pick up the award along with Sophie Mcshera, who plays Daisy, Phyllis Logan, who plays Mrs Hughes, Amy Nuttall who plays Ethel and Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary.
Leech, who plays widower Tom Branson in the ITV period drama, travelled to the SAG Awards straight from the Sundance Film Festival, where his film ‘In Fear’ was screening.
It is expected Brendan Coyle, who plays valet John Bates in ‘Downton Abbey’, did not attend the SAG ceremony as he filming feature film ‘Noble’ with fellow Irish actors Deirdre O’Kane and Sarah Greene.
Other winners at last night’s SAG Awards included long-time Wicklow resident Daniel Day-Lewis, who won Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Leading Role for ‘Lincoln’, Irish-shot series ‘Game of Thrones’, which picked up Outstanding Action Performance By A Stunt Ensemble In A Television Series, Jennifer Lawrence, who won the Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, and ABC show ‘Modern Family’, which won Outstanding Performance By An Ensemble In A Comedy Series.
