Emmett J Scanlan is leaving Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’, the Dublin actor has announced.
Scanlan, who first appeared on the TV drama back in August 2010, has been playing Irish nightclub owner Brendan Brady for more than two years.
Having gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of complex character Brady, which has seen Scanlan act storylines which dealt with murder, sexual and domestic abuse, Scanlan told his Twitter fans today: “The time has come for me to sign out of ‘Hollyoaks’. Thank you for your love and loyalty, and please, let's dance again another time, another role.”
The Irish actor has won numerous awards for the role, including Best Actor and Best Bad Boy at the Inside Soap Awards last month. He has also just been nominated for a National Television Award in the Serial Drama Performance: Male category.
Speaking of the nomination, Scanlan said: “It's ridiculous to find myself short listed for an NTA, [I’m] so flattered and honoured by this and it’s all thanks to [the fans] for voting. It’s such a privilege in our field to be recognised for a storyline and I’m very proud of the Brady one. A public vote makes it extra special.”
The NTA’s are scheduled to take place on January 23, where ‘Hollyoaks’ is also nominated in the Serial Drama category.
‘Hollyoaks’ is a Lime Pictures production, with the majority of filming taking place in Chester in the UK. In October 2012, the soap filmed in Dublin for three days, with Scanlan among the cast whose storylines saw them venture across the pond.
Scanlan will shoot his final scenes for ‘Hollyoaks’ at the end of this month, and told IFTN that Lime Pictures has offered him a role in a “dark, ballsy drama”. The actor added: “Regardless of what happens, the fact they asked is very flattering. There are maybe one or two others things happening. They’ve got a pulse, hopefully some life. I'm happy though.”
Scanlan’s final ‘Hollyoaks’ scenes will air on Channel 4 in March 2013.
