'Hector Goes' is a new four part series starring TV personality Hector Ó hEochagáin to be broadcast on RTÉ ONE from Good Company productions starting on January 7th. Always keen to delve into the quirkier side of travelling, Hector takes to the road in his 1979 Volkswagen Combi and discovers and explores some of the more alternative side roads of Irish life.

Never one to shy away from his subject, Hector’s hands-on approach has always provided audiences over the years with much entertainment, as we saw with programmes like ‘Hector san Afraic’, ‘Hector san Oz’, and ‘Hector san UK’. Series producer and long-time collaborator Evan Chamberlain gives us an insight into his upcoming show:

“Hector doesn’t walk around the car, kicking the tires and banging the doors. Hector is more of a jump in behind the wheel and take the thing for a spin type of a guy. We won’t spend a huge amount of time in a camouflaged hide slowly approaching the water hole. We’ll be more diving in and striking out for the opposite shore. We’ll be immersed. We’ll be embedded. The resulting stories will be told in a bold, informed and entertaining way. And whisper it quietly.... we might actually learn a thing or two about ourselves. Add Hector to any situation and the stories become slightly less straightforward, slightly more layered - we’re already in deeper than we thought but that’s ok, we can still feel the bottom with at least one toe. Now let’s start to peel away the layers....”

Part One of the series, ‘Hector Goes Holy’, sees Hector discussing the role of the Catholic Church in contemporary Ireland. Hector goes along the road in an effort to find out whatever happened to God, whatever happened to going to mass and what exactly have the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church done for us?

Part Two, ‘Hector Goes Traveller’, has Hector delving into the Traveller lifestyle and discovering what being an Irish Traveller in today’s world actually means.

Part Three, ‘Hector Goes Country’, sees Hector in the company of Mike Denver, Ireland’s answer to Garth Brooks, diving into the world of Country and Western music - Irish style - and with the help of a few country music giants he prepares for his debut performance in the C&W hotbed that is Castleblaney.

The final episode in the series, ‘Hector Goes Hunting’, Hector immerses himself in the world of hunting and shooting. From Wicklow to Limerick with gun cocked and horses shod, Hector attempts to find out if it’s possible to root for the fox whilst hanging with the hounds.

‘Hector Goes’ begins on the 7th of January on RTÉ ONE and runs until the 28th of January.
