TG4 continues with its drive into the digital market as it launches a new on-demand capacity on Irish pay TV service UPC.
The Irish language station’s content, which contains popular programmes like ‘Ros na Rún’, ‘Jockey Eile’ and ‘Garraí Glas’, can now be accessed anytime on the on-demand function, joining that of RTÉ and TV3 which are already signed up.
TG4’s on demand will have between 35 and 40 new programmes each week, with content available for 14 days, after it is initially broadcast on TG4.
TG4 head of output Lís Ní Dhálaigh said of the new UPC deal: “As viewer habits and preferences continue to change and technology offers new options, TG4 is delighted to add an on-demand element to its carriage on UPC, further improving access to Irish language content, whether on TV, on UPC on-demand and worldwide on our own web service. We look forward to expanding the range of content available as audience feedback dictates and as content rights allow”.
TG4 already has a HD channel which is exclusive to UPC, and provides an online player service online free of charge for international viewers. Speaking at the station’s autumn launch last August, deputy chief executive Pádhraic Ó’Ciardha also spoke of a possible TG4 3D channel in the near future.
TG4 on-demand is available to use now.
