Martin McCann will shoot his next feature film ‘Fishbowl City’ in Belfast in the new year, marking the young actor’s writing debut.
Belfast-born McCann has written a script for the “love and the challenge”, which follows two Belfast brothers who have taken different paths in life – one heads for the high life, the other the low life.
McCann will also star in the film, along with fellow Belfast actor Terry Keeley (Titanic: Blood & Steel), John Travers (Song for a Raggy Boy) and Ciaran Nolan (Man About Dog).
The shoot will last for three weeks in Belfast, with Edwina Forkin producing for Dublin’s Zanzibar Films. Richard Scobie (Apples & Oranges) will direct.
The production team is currently seeking funding from a crowdsourcing website, in the hope of raising £5,000. There is one week left to donate.
Speaking in a promotional video for the feature, McCann and Keeley say the film is "not about the Troubles, which is a plus".
Speaking to IFTN today, McCann said he was looking forward to getting stuck into the shoot, as it was essentially “a bunch of friends getting together”.
The ‘Jump’ actor is currently working on the script with development executive Ursula Devine at Northern Ireland Screen.
In between promoting the funding campaign in Northern Ireland, McCann recently participated in a Cinemagic Film Festival workshop for young people in Belfast, and will attend the screening of his film 'Jump' at the Foyle Film Festival on Saturday.
An official funding announcement on ‘Fishbowl City’ is expected next week.
