Irish director Catherine Owens’ latest 3D documentary, ‘Colin Dunne – Sculpting Space’, will air to Irish and UK audiences tomorrow night on Sky 3D.

The Irish director, who has mastered the art of 3D filmmaking after her ground-breaking 2008 documentary ‘U2 3D’ received mass critical acclaim, has teamed up with Hollywood producer Buzz Hayes (Beowulf) to create her latest 3D adventure on Irish dancing.

The 90-minute film follows Irish man and ‘Riverdance’ star Colin Dunne as he looks back on his successful dance career, from his early childhood championships to his recent international productions ‘Riverdance’ and ‘Dancing on Dangerous Ground’, to his first solo show ‘Out of Time’.

Owens interviewed a number of people who have influenced Dunne’s career to date, and those who have worked closely with him.

Speaking of her most recent film, the New York-based director said: “The film includes a series of interviews and performance footage from ‘Out Of Time’ filmed especially for this documentary. Using excerpts from works past and present and interviewing some of those who have influenced and supported Colin during the last 30 years we have crafted a refreshing and thoughtful look into the creative process of the solo artist.”

Sky 3D and Sky Arts HD will simultaneously air the documentary at 8pm tomorrow night (November 10).

‘Colin Dunne – Sculpting Space’ is the latest Irish-attached production Sky has acquired recently, following Chris O’Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy’s ‘Moone Boy’ and action drama ‘Sinbad’, which Egg Post Production house in Dublin worked on.

Sky TV has also hinted at a number of Irish productions being made available on its pay TV service in the new year, after it revealed it was in talks with both RTÉ and TV3 to make Irish shows accessible on On-Demand.

John Cassy, channel director of Sky 3D, commented on the upcoming Irish dancing documentary: “Sky is committed to innovative projects through the medium of 3D and it is wonderful to be able to showcase Colin’s work to TV audiences in a way that they have never seen before. We’re thrilled that Catherine Owens has brought the work of a master artist at the top of his craft to life in such an engaging way.”

‘Colin Dunne – Sculpting Space’ was funded by the IFB. It will air on Sky 3D on November 10 at 8pm.
