Kerry man Michael Fassbender has been nominated for Best Actor at the European Film Academy Awards, for his role in Steve McQueen’s ‘Shame’.
Fassbender, who plays a sex-addicted New York-based office worker in the feature, is up against Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Jean-Louis Trintignant (Amour), Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt) and François Cluzet and Omar Sy, who have both been nominated for ‘Untouchable’.
‘Shame’ meanwhile is also up for Best European Film, Best Cinematographer for Sean Bobbitt, and Best Editor for Joe Walker.
Fassbender joins Irish screenwriter Mark O’Rowe and director Darren Thornton in the EFA nominations, who are up for their projects ‘Broken’ and ‘Two Hearts’ respectively.
The EFA Awards take place in Malta on December 1.
Fassbender will next be seen in another McQueen project ‘Twelve Years a Slave’, and has just landed a starring role as Thomas Wolfe in Michael Grandage’s ‘Genius’ as well as a role opposite Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman in Terence Malick’s upcoming feature.
He will also be in Dublin next month to begin filming on Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Frank’, in which he stars opposite Domhnall Gleeson.
