Comic actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been announced as the hosts of the 2013 Golden Globes. While the Academy of Motion Picture and Arts played it controversial with male comic Seth MacFarlane, the Globes has made history by hiring two hosts for only the second time in its 70 year history. ’30 Rock’ creator Fey, and ‘Parks and Recreation’ actress Poehler, both worked together previously on ‘Saturday Night Live’, where they starred in the popular Sarah Palin sketches among others. The 70th Golden Globes will take place on January 13.
‘The Walking Dead’ Makes Ratings History… AMC show ‘The Walking Dead’ returned to screens in America last night, opening to 10.9m total viewers, making it the most-watched drama telecast in basic cable history. The zombie series, which stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, is now in its third season. Viewers in Ireland and the UK are expected to get season three on RTÉ Two and Sky’s FX in the New Year.
Harry Potter goes to Sky… All eight films of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise will be available on Sky over three months for the Christmas period. Each film, from ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’ to ‘The Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ will be accessible on Sky’s broadcast station, its on-demand service and the Sky Go app. The Potter deal is the latest franchise deal Sky has struck, having previously picked up Warner Brothers’ ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’, as well as its current airing of the James Bond back catalogue.
