Irish animations ‘Octonauts’ and ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ have both been nominated for an International Emmy Kids Award.
Brown Bag Films’ ‘Octonauts’ is up for the award in the Kids: Preschool category, along with three other international kids’ programmes.
‘Octonauts’ is based on the childrens’ books by Vicki Wong and Michael C Murphy of Meomi Design. It follows a bunch of animals that live under water and explore different areas via their aquatic vehicles.
Dublin-based Oscar-winning animators Brown Bag (Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty) animated the series, with Silvergate Media, BBC Children and Cbeebies producing. The series has already been nominated for an IFTA and a BAFTA.
‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, produced by Dublin-based Boulder Media, follows a 12 year-old cat named Gumball and his family, including his former pet fish who is now his adopted brother and a rabbit stay-at-home dad, in the town of Elmore.
Cartoon Network, Dandelion Studios and Studio Soi also produce, with Turner Broadcasting also on board. The pre-school series has already won a BAFTA Award and is up against three other kids’ shows in the same category.
The 2013 International Emmy Kids Awards Gala takes place in New York on February 13.
