Juliette Binoche To Shoot ‘A Thousand Times Good Night’ In Ireland
26 Sep 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Juliette Binoche won an Oscar for her role in 'The English Patient'
Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche has been cast in Irish co-production ‘A Thousand Times Good Night’, which will begin shooting in Ireland on October 22.

A co-production between Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures, Paradox in Norway and Zentropa International Sweden, the drama will be directed by Norwegian director Erik Poppe and is based on his own experiences as a war photographer.

French actress Binoche, who won an Oscar for ‘The English Patient’ and was nominated for ‘Chocolat’, will play the lead role of Rebekka, a war photographer torn between the job and her family. Further cast is set to be announced in the coming days.

The screenplay for the feature film – which has also been developed under the title ‘Grenade’ - has been written by Harald Rosenløw Eeg.

The film will shoot for five weeks in Dublin followed by two weeks in Morocco.

Jackie Larkin and Lesley McKimm will produce for Newgrange alongside Norwegian Finn Gjerdrum and Stein Kave for Paradox.

The feature’s budget is reportedly around €5m with the project having been offered €300,000 from the Irish Film Board in the last round of funding. The Norwegian Film Institute is also supporting the feature.

Crew so far attached to the project include Norwegian cinematographer John Christian Rosenlund and Irish casting agent Maureen Hughes.

The co-production marks the second time Newgrange and Paradox have linked up on an Irish feature having both produced ‘Stella Days’ in 2010, starring US actor Martin Sheen.
