Film industry contributes €5.7bn (£4.6bn) to Britain’s GDP…
The British film industry contributed more than €5.7bn (£4.6bn) to Britain’s gross domestic product and over €1.6bn (£1.3bn) in taxes last year, according to an independent report commissioned by the British Film Institute and Pinewood Shepperton. The Economic Impact of the U.K. Film Industry in 2011 report showed that production spend from inward investment in the UK accounted for 80 per cent of the money spent on UK production in 2011. Variety reports that the document shows that films depicting UK settings, characters and culture generate 10 per cent €2.6bn of visitor spending per year is attributable to UK film.
New BBC director general calls on staff to help improve broadcaster… New BBC director general George Entwistle has used his first address at the broadcaster to call on staff to contribute ideas for improving the corporation. Broadcast reports that Entwhistle emailed staff ahead of a formal address tomorrow that is likely to echo his call for workers at the station to help improve the operation.
