Irish-based filmmaker John Boorman is reportedly set to direct a sequel to his acclaimed 1987 film ‘Hope and Glory’.
The sequel – entitled ‘Queen and Country’ – has been scripted by Boorman (The General) and will be produced through his Irish production company Merlin Films.
Boorman will produce the feature alongside his longtime producing partner Kieran Corrigan (Waiting For Dublin). According to Variety, US actor Caleb Landry Jones is in talks to star in the feature.
Landry Jones is also attached to another project Boorman is developing, ‘Broken Dream’, which the director wrote nearly 40 years ago with fellow filmmaker Neil Jordan.
Boorman’s original and acclaimed World War Two film ‘Hope and Glory’ was semi-autobiographical and was Oscar-nominated for best picture, director and original screenplay.
No exact production start date has been put in place for ‘Queen and Country’ or ‘Broken Dream’, though Variety report that ‘Queen and Country’ will be made first and will shoot in London.
Boorman has not directed a film since 2006’s ‘The Tiger’s Tail’, which starred Brendan Gleeson. Landry Jones will next be seen opposite Saoirse Ronan in Neil Jordan’s ‘Byzantium’.
