‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ was voted Best Comedy Series at last night’s TV Choice Awards in London, picking up its third award of the year.
The awards were held at the Dorchester Hotel with comedienne Jo Brand hosting.
‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, which won both an IFTA and a BAFTA Award this year, sees Dublin-born O’Carroll play Agnes Brown, a mother to five dysfunctional children.
O’Carroll is joined by his real-life family members on set, including his wife Jennifer Gibney, his daughter Fiona and his son Danny.
The series is a BBC Scotland co-production with BocPix in association with RTÉ. Stephen McCrum produces for the BBC with Martin Delany for BOCPIX.
Other Irish talent up for awards at the TV Choice Awards last night included ‘Charlie Casanova’ actor Emmett J Scanlan, who was nominated for Best Soap Actor for his role as Brendan Brady in Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’. Brady lost out to ‘Eastenders’ actor Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon.
Armagh actor Colin Morgan was up for Best Actor for his role in ‘Merlin’, while Graham Norton’s chat show was up for Best Entertainment Show. Both lost out to Martin Clunes (Doc Martin) and ‘Celebrity Juice’ respectively.
Scanlan will have another opportunity on the awards circuit later this month at the Inside Soap Awards where he is up for three awards.
O’Carroll meanwhile is currently developing a script for a feature film version of ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, while the format idea has been sold internationally. A celebrity-based gameshow with Mrs Brown at the helm is also due to hit our screens in 2013.
