Irish writer/director Gerard Barrett has signed with Martin Scorsese’s agent at top talent agency WME.
The ‘Pilgrim Hill’ filmmaker will be repped by senior agent and partner at WME Chris Donnelly, who represents ‘The Departed’ director as well as a number of Hollywood stars.
Barrett’s ‘Pilgrim Hill’ recently received its international premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in the US, where it was the only Irish film selected this year.
The feature, directed by Barrett when he was just 22, follows the lonely journey of a bachelor farmer living in rural Ireland while he looks after his ailing father. Barrett, who is now 24, made the film on a budget of just €4,500. The film won Barrett the Bingham Ray Award at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.
News of Barrett’s signing comes just one day after Wicklow actor Jack Reynor also signed with WME. The ‘What Richard Did’ actor premiered his Lenny Abrahamson film at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.
WME is one of the largest talent agencies in the world, with offices in Beverly Hills, Miami, New York and London. It has A-list actors such as Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck on its books.
Both ‘Pilgrim Hill’ and ‘What Richard Did’ will screen in the same category at next month’s BFI London Film Festival.
