Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has filmed a scene for HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, he announced on the band’s Facebook page.

Lightbody, from Bangor in Co Down, posted a photo of himself in costume online yesterday with the caption: “So I did my scene this morning for ‘Game of Thrones’. I looked like this. Can't say much just it's no pivotal role. Fun!”

Season three of the fantasy adventure is currently filming in Northern Ireland’s Shane Castle grounds, and will soon move on to the private house Redhall Estate in Antrim.

Lightbody, famous for hit songs such as ‘Run’ and ‘Chasing Cars’ with his band Snow Patrol, has been dipping his guitar-playing hand into the Northern Irish film industry recently, making his acting debut last week in KGB Productions' romantic comedy ‘Made in Belfast’, currently shooting in the city. He also took on the role of associate producer for the award-winning film ‘Good Vibrations’ last year.

’Good Vibrations’ is based on the life of record shop owner Terri Hooley, who has been credited with keeping the music scene alive in Belfast during the Troubles in the 1970s. Lightbody, who has known Hooley for many years, spoke of the film in 2011: “[Hooley] has given selflessly to Northern Irish music his whole life in a highly unconventional way - drug busts, punch-ups, boozing, tall tales and punk rock - he's lived a movie already really. It's our job to help bring it to life for the rest of the world.”

‘Good Vibrations’ was recently named Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh. It was directed by husband and wife Lisa Barros D’sa and Glenn Leyburn, produced by David Holmes and Chris Martin, and stars Richard Dormer as Hooley. Dormer is currently filming scenes for season three of ‘Game of Thrones’, having been cast recently,

Producers on hit series ‘Game of Thrones’ are keeping tight-lipped on plot lines, but have said season three will stay as close to the George RR Martin-penned books as possible. Production will move from Northern Ireland to Iceland in November, after which Down-based post house Yellow Moon will contribute to the post production.

New stars added to the season three lineup include ‘The Office’ actor Mackenzie Crook, ‘Waking the Dead’ actress Tara Fitzgerald, and Ellie Kendrick (Being Human).

Other actors keen to get on board include ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam, who recently announced he would love a role on the HBO series, as long as it ran alongside his role of motorcycle club leader Jax Teller in Kurt Sutter’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’.

‘Game of Thrones’ season three will air on Sky Atlantic in spring 2013. See IFTN’s location visit to Shane’s Castle with ‘Game of Thrones’ crew interviews here.
