Daily Bite: BBC Annual Report Shows Cut In Top Stars Salaries
16 Jul 2012 : By Steve Cummins
New BBC director general George Entwistle
In today’s Daily Bite, news of the BBC’s annual report; Ken Loach to be honoured at October’s Lumiere Festival in France and a look at the big-budget re-make of ‘The Sweeney’.

BBC cuts €9.5m in top stars’ earnings as annual report released… The BBC has spent £9.5m less on talent and £119m less on content in 2011/12 compared with the year before, figures released today show. The broadcaster has unveiled its annual report which also shows that drama output across the BBC’s TV channels fell by 156 hours last year, with arts content also down by 90 hours. However, the report said the Corporation “introduced audiences to 144 hours of brand new British drama, with 46 original titles across the year”. The annual report follows the appointment earlier this month of new BBC director general George Entwistle.

Ken Loach to Be Honored With Lumiere Prize ‘The Wind That Shakes The Barley’ director Ken Loach is to be honoured at France’s Lumiere Festival in October with their honorary Lumiere Prize. The prestigious award honors lifetime achievement in film and has previously been given to Clint Eastwood, Milos Forman and Gerard Depardieu. The festival, now in its fourth year, is directed by the Cannes Film Festival’s Thierry Fremaux and presided by filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier.

If you watch one trailer today… Rapper Plan B continues his foray into the film world following ‘Ill Manors’ and ‘Harry Browne’ with a starring role in the big-screen remake of ‘The Sweeney’, which is released in September.
