Ian Smyth Composing Score For Irish Feature Pitch ‘The Mulbury Project’

Composer Ian Smyth (Rewind) is putting the finishing touches to a score for an Irish feature film pitch which has received funding from the Irish Film Board.

Smyth – who works across TV, film and commercials – has composed an orchestral score for director Richie Smyth’s ‘The Mulbury Project,’ a sci-fi horror feature set in the near future, which will be produced by Northern Ireland’s Heaven’s Gate Films.

Richie Smyth is set to pitch the proof-of-concept to US studios later this summer along with writers Martin Brennan and Michael B. Jackson. Last year the project received €27,500 in a fiction development loan from the Irish Film Board. The proof-of-concept was shot in LA earlier this year.

Holding a degree in film score and composition from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Ian Smyth has been working on international and local film and TV scores since 1999 under the banner of Ian Smyth Soundz.

His recent commercial work includes TV adverts for Club Orange’s ‘Nice Bits’; Liberty Insurance’s ‘Manifesto’ brand commercial and scores for adverts for Brennan's Bread and Engineers Ireland.

He is also involved in Games Music Ireland – an initiative set up to connect composer with the Irish games industry - and is currently composing a serious of Cello Suites based on drawings by the artist Aoife Ní Chaoilte to accompany her short story ‘A Day In the Life of a Butterfly’.
