Five animations will receive funding from the Irish Film Board in the latest Frameworks scheme.

‘Ledge End of Phil’, ‘Geist’, ‘No Postage Required’, ‘The Missing Scarf’ and ‘Un Hinged’ have all been backed for development by the IFB. Cartoon Saloon, Giant Creative, Igloo Productions, Jad Agencies and Studio Okinami are the production companies behind the projects.

‘Ledge End of Phil’ will be written and directed by Paul Morris and produced by Paul Young. Cartoon Saloon, the company behind the Oscar-nominated animation ‘The Secret of Kells’, will oversee the production.

‘Geist’ will be written and directed by Alex Sherwood and Seán Mullen, and produced by Daniel Spencer, all for Giant Creative. The Dublin-based animation studio recently had success with ‘The Last Train’, which was officially selected for the Annecy Film Festival.

‘No Postage Required’ will be written by William Collins and directed by former Frameworks participant Kealan O’Rourke. O’Rourke's ‘The Boy in the Bubble’ went on to receive international recognition, scooping a number of awards, including the recent Audience Award at the Palm Springs International Shortfest last month. Brian Willis, who also worked on ‘The Boy in the Bubble’, is producing for Igloo Productions.

‘The Missing Scarf’ will be written and directed by Eoin Duffy and produced by Jamie Hogan for Jad Agencies. Another of the studio’s animation’s ‘On Departure’ will screen at the Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday July 14. ‘Un Hinged’ will be written and directed by Tom Caulfield and produced by Barry O’Donoghue for Studio Okinami.

The Frameworks short film scheme is now in its 17th year, and has helped develop a number of highly successful animations, such as Oscar-nominated 'Give Up Yer Aul Sins’ and 'Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’, both Brown Bag Films productions, and ‘Old Fangs’, which was produced by Cartoon Saloon and officially selected for the Sundance Film Festival.

The Frameworks scheme is co-financed by the IFB, RTÉ, the Arts Council and the BAI. All five projects will premiere at next year’s Galway Film Fleadh. This year’s Fleadh, which is currently underway (July 10-15), will screen the successful 2012 Frameworks applicants on Saturday July 14. These include ‘Tríd and Storm’, ‘Coda’, ‘Here To Fall’, ‘On Departure’, ‘Fear of Flying’, ‘After You’ and ‘Irish Folk Furniture’. For the full Galway Film Fleadh programme click here.
