British actors Mackenzie Crook and Tara Fitzgerald are rumoured to have been cast in ‘Game of Thrones’ season three, which starts filming in Belfast this month.

Crook, best known for his role as Gareth Keenan in ‘The Office’, is reportedly set to play Vargo ‘The Goat’ Hoat in the HBO series, while Fitzgerald, a regular on BBC series ‘Waking the Dead’, is rumoured to play Selyse Florent, the wife of Stannis Baratheon, played by Stephen Dillane (John Adams).

Season three of the fantasy adventure will be filmed in Belfast’s Paint Hall Studios as well as two new purpose-built 44,000 square-feet sound stages in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter and the Linen Mill Film Studios in Co Down. Season three will follow the format of the first two seasons with 10 episodes.

It is based on the first half of George RR Martin’s third book ‘A Storm of Swords’ of the seven-part series, and Martin himself will write episode seven of 10, which has the working title ‘Autumn Storms’.

Cast announcements are expected to be made at the Comic-Con event in California on Friday July 13.

There has been a slight change to the ‘Game of Thrones’ Comic-Con lineup which features a number of cast members from season three. Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, will not feature at the Comic-Con panel on Friday as expected, but instead Rose Leslie, who plays Ygriite, will join fellow co-stars Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden. The ‘Game of Thrones’ panel will take place at 2.45pm.

Representatives of both Crook and Fitzgerald were unable to comment on the casting news, but it is expected all will be revealed at the Comic-Con event on Friday.

'Game of Thrones' received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen Fund supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
