10 Jul 2012 :
A scene from 'An Gadaí’
The Scéal 2 development scheme which gives Irish-language writers the opportunity to develop a script into a short film has been launched.

The scheme, co-funded by Greasán na Méan, BAI and TG4, offers Irish-speaking writers the opportunity to adapt well-known stories from Irish language literature or folklore into a short film.

The scheme is based on the previous series ‘Scéal’, which is currently in post production with editors Seán Ó Caollaí, David O Brien, Ronnie Quinlan, John Paul Shortt and Breege Rowley.

Six Irish shorts were chosen for this scheme, ‘Sodar’, ‘Bás Arto Leary’, ‘Eonín’, ‘Páirtnéir’, ‘Síle’ and ’An Gadaí’, with industry experts such as cinematographer Ciarán Tanham (Raw), actor Eamonn Draper (Jack Taylor: The Pikemen), and camera man Ken Byrne (Some Mother’s Son) assisting with the productions. This series will air on TG4 in 2013.

Scéal 2 is open to Irish-language writers from all over the country who want to gain experience in television drama. Applicants are not required to have film or television experience, however must speak the Irish language.

The closing date for applications for Scéal 2 is Friday August 24. For more information on Scéal 2 visit www.tg4.ie.
