In today’s Daily Bite, Michael Haneke leads the big winners at the 2012 Cannes International Film Festival as new appointments are made at the BBC and Endemol.
Michael Haneke’s ‘Amour’ wins Palme d'Or at Cannes… Austrian filmmaker latest movie ‘Amour’ has won the director his second Palme d'Or in three years. The win follows his 2009 triumph with ‘The White Ribbon.’ Other major winners included Italian director Matteo Garrone's ‘Reality,’ which won the Grand Prix, and Ken Loach, who won the Jury Prize for ‘The Angels' Share.’
BBC appoints new department heads… Natalie Humphreys has been named the BBC’s controller of factual TV production while former Channel 4 documentaries commissioning editor Aysha Rafaele has been made the BBC’s new head of documentaries. Two new sub-genre heads have also been appointed new roles. Andrew Cohen as been made head of science and Jonty Claypole will be head of arts, based in Glasgow.
Endemol appoints new managing director… Endemol, the world’s largest independent production company, has appointed Nicholas Coppermann as Managing Director of Endemol France. Coppermann has over 18 years experience in the French TV sector and was previously general manager and partner at TV, film and distribution company Robin & Co. in Paris.
