The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has announced details of a special Members masterclass and ‘In Conversation With…’ event with acclaimed Irish cinematographer Seamus McGarvey next Tuesday (April 24) in Dublin.
As part of IFTA’s chapter focus event, cinematography chapter Members will get the chance to join IFTA award-winner McGarvey at the IFI in Dublin as he discusses his career highlights and techniques.
McGarvey boasts a wealth of experience in the film industry with his previous credits including Oscar-winning drama ‘Atonement’, for which he himself was Oscar nominated for, and the celebrated Tilda Swinton drama ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’.
The Armagh native began his career as a stills photographer, quickly progressing to cinematography by shooting short films and documentaries. His early work swiftly gained attention in the film industry, resulting in him being nominated for the Turner Prize and working with celebrated directors such as Sam Taylor-Wood.
Cinematography chapter Members who attend the Masterclass will also attend the Irish premiere of McGarvey’s latest blockbuster, ‘The Avengers Assemble’, an action-packed feature based on the famous Marvel comic. This screening will take place at the Savoy Cinema on O’Connell Street in Dublin on April 23 and Seamus McGarvey will be special guest.
These events are Free to Members of the Irish Film & Television Academy. Other recent IFTA events include a Members First Look at anticipated drama series 'Titanc: Blood and Steel' followed by a Q&A with Director Ciaran Donnelly and Paul Muler; a screening of 'Death of a Superhero' plus Q&A with director Ian Fitzgibbon; the IFTA TV Lecture with Sky TV's Stuart Murphy; and an 'In Conversation With...'
