'Raymond' Wraps Filming in Dublin

Irish writer and director Gavin FitzGerald has entered post-production on his short film ‘Raymond’. The six-minute short tells the story of a delusional taxi driver who remains positive in a hectic world. It was produced by Sibéal Davitt (Buaicphointe) and stars Tommy O'Neill (Fair City, The General) as Raymond. Irish cameraman Frankie Leonard (Stella Days) was the director of photography.

Fitzgerald (Potaisiam) told IFTN: “The idea behind the film was to go ahead and make something on a low budget. Young filmmakers can be waiting for grants to come for a lifetime. By showing some initiative and getting the right crew together, it can all happen very quickly. As soon as DOP Frankie Leonard was on board, we knew that we were going to have a short at the end of it.”

Fitzgerald shot on a Sony PMW F3, which he rented along with all his other camera equipment from Visual Impact Ireland. Lighting was rented from Teach Solais.

He added: “By shooting on the Sony PMW F3 we managed to stick to a budget while using prime lenses. We also used a nano flash (set to 100mb/s) as an external 8-bit recorder. The kit worked great, despite the fact that much of the film was shot in the back of a taxi.”

The film is now in post-production and hopes to be ready for the summer's festival rounds.
