Ireland’s Brown Bag Films are celebrating after the series premiere of their new animated series, ‘Doc McStuffins’, broke ratings records for the Disney Channel.
The 52-part animated series premiered in the US last Friday on Disney’s recently launched Disney Junior channel and was produced by Brown Bag in Ireland in association with Disney.
It ranked as the Disney Channel’s number one weekday series debut of all-time with children aged between two and five-years-old, as well as with girls of the same age.
Perhaps more impressive, its launch episode also became the number one most-watched pre-school series in cable TV history between adults aged 18-49-years-old with 800,000 adults tuning it to the show.
In terms of viewing figures for a weekday launch, only the primetime premiere of ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse’ has drawn in more viewers for Disney.
The series follows six-year-old Doc McStuffins, who talks to and heals stuffed animals and toys out of her backyard clinic. The series highlights the importance of taking care of oneself and others and places an emphasis on healthy living.
Gillian Higgins (Wobblyland) and Theresa Mayer have produced the series for Brown Bag.
Creator Chris Nee, Brown Bag's creative director Darragh O’Connell and Brown Bag's CEO Cathal Gaffney executive produce.
Brown Bag Films currently employ over 100 full time staff and are in production with The Happy Hugglemonsters for DisneyJR which is based on a book by Niamh Sharkey”.
The series is directed by Norton Virgien (Rugrats) and is written and created by Emmy Award-winner Chris Nee (Little Bill).
‘Doc McStuffins’ has received support under section 481.
