News Corporation dominate the big television industry news story of the day…. Some extraordinary claims were made in last night’s Panorama programme on BBC One. Panorama reported that a subsidiary company of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation used a computer hacker to sabotage Sky TV's biggest rival, ITV Digital.
The subsidiary, NDS, was accused of leaking ITV Digital codes which could be used to create counterfeit smart cards for the black market, giving people free access to paid for TV. ITV Digital closed in 2002, leaving Sky as Britain’s only paid-for television network. Both NDS and News Corporation deny the allegations and any wrongdoing.
Sony to launch UltraViolet Discs outside of the US… Deadline Hollywood are reporting that Sony Pictures UK is to release a number of its titles with UltraViolet digital versions included with their respective Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.
The new UltraViolet format will allow Blu-ray Disc or DVD customers to create a free cloud-based UltraViolet account, they will be able to access their movie through any UltraViolet-compatible service or device – from PCs and tablets to TVs and phones.
Television show favourites to reunite for FOX anniversary special…… The stars of ‘The X Files’, ‘Ally McBeal’, ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ and ‘Married With Children’ are to reunite to mark the 25th anniversary of the US television network on April 22. The special will pay tribute to the station’s most memorable moments since 1987.
