Irish Actor Ciaran Hinds to Play Former US President
27 Mar 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Ciaran Hinds
Irish actor Ciaran Hinds has been signed up to star opposite Sigourney Weaver in ‘Political Animals’, a new six-part US television drama.

Fresh from the Oscar-winning success of ‘The Shore’, Hinds has been cast as a former US president in the new series, which will air on the US Network this summer.

The drama will centre on Weaver’s character, Elaine Barrish, a divorced former first lady and current US secretary of state, who is struggling to juggle her work and family life.

Hinds will star as Bud Hammond, the jovial ex-president of the US and ex-husband of Elaine Barrish (Weaver).

His character is described as: “A gifted politician who was once loved by the American public, Bud has struggled since his divorce from Elaine, and his out-of-office antics have caused a tumble in his popularity.

“President Bud Hammond is still as much in love with his ex-wife as the office he once held and is eager to take on the role of elder statesman if Elaine calls on him.”

The US show is produced by Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television. The cast also includes Carla Gugino (Entourage), James Wolk (Lonestar) and Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl).
