The Scéal short film initiative has progressed to the workshops stage this week. The initiative, funded by TG4 and the BAI, offers Irish-speaking writers and directors the chance to adapt a story from literature into a short film.
Six chosen Sceal participants; Niall Fallon, Cathal Ó Cuaig, Colm Bairéad, Micheál Ó Dubháin, Tom Ó Suilleabháin and Luke Mc Manus will each be treated to workshops mentored by established directors such as Declan Recks (Eden), Paddy Breathnach (Shrooms, I Went Down) and Tom Collins (Kings). All six Sceal filmmakers will be looking to gain invaluable advice from the experts as they fine tune their projects, scheduled to be filmed in May.
Directors are working from a further six scripts that have been developed from successful candidates from the scheme’s scriptwriting phase. These writers are: Marion Ní Loingsigh, Medb Johnstone, Ann Marie Flanagan, Seán T.Ó Meallaigh, Séamus Moran and Manchán Magan. Royal Television Society award-winner Alison Lumb (Casualty) oversaw the script development.
