Celtic Media Festival 2012 Gets Nostalgic for Opening Night
26 Mar 2012 : By Eva Hall
Film buffs attending the annual Celtic Media Festival 2012 will be going back in time with archive footage of Derry and its residents from The Nerve Centre’s North West Digital Film Archive with the ‘Derry on Screen’ event launching the festival.

The festival, which is in its 33rd year, showcases the best of broadcast and film from Celtic shores. The historic tapes of Derry city have been curated by students from the University of Ulster and promise to provide humour as well as political insight into Derry residents from past years.

The festival’s opening night will also host a party for those looking to unwind before the weekend of screenings and awards kicks off, to be held at the festival’s original 1994 location, St. Columb’s Hall. This will be followed by a Green Light welcoming event which will give students and new entrants the chance to network and meet with industry professionals.

The awards ceremony for sports, arts, entertainment plus others will also take place on Wednesday 18th April at the Playhouse Theatre. The Celtic Media Festival’s 2012 updated programme is now available in full for free on the festival’s homepage. Nominees are reminded they are entitled to one free registration to the festival per nomination. This year’s festival will be held from 18th – 20th April in Derry’s Playhouse Theatre.
