2011 Winner An Cluiche
The Dingle International Film Festival, which runs from the 15th-18th March 2012, has opened this year’s ‘Físín’ short filmmaking competition.

The competition, in its second year, is aimed at people who combine a special interest in film with a commitment to the Irish language. The festival is keen to see proposals from all local dialects. The competition is open to anyone, young or old, amateur or professional filmmakers.

Five filmmakers will then be selected from those submitted to attend the 2012 Dingle International Film Festival in March as festival guests. Each will be given the opportunity to pitch their proposal to a panel during the festival. This year’s panel includes writer Louise Ní Fhiannachta, writer Marina Ní Dhubháin and director Cathal Watters (Muide Éire, Che).

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of €5,000 and €1,000 worth of lighting equipment hire sponsored by Cian de Buitléar’s company Teach Solais. They will then return with their film to the 2013 festival for a screening. Last year’s winner was Cathal Ó Cuaig, who finished filming his winning script ‘An Cluiche’ at the end of last year.

Applications for ‘Físín’ are available to download by clicking here clicking here. The closing date for entries is 17th February 2012.
