Moondance Productions are treating Irish audiences to a one hour festive episode of ‘The Zoo’ this Christmas airing on RTE One at 6.30pm on December 28th.
The episode, which was filmed last winter last year, shows some of the worst winter conditions to hit Dublin and the Zoo on record. The episode follows the keepers as they work hard to help the animals who had to adapt to the cold weather and heavy snowfall.
Video editor for the show was Andrew Hearne (Trouble in Paradise, Stew), script editor was Niall Murphy (The Boy in The Bubble, Northern Ireland’s Greatest Haunts), original music was by Giles Packham (Children of the Revolution, Dragon’s Den), assistant producer was John Higgins and executive producer for RTÉ was Brian Walsh (Eileen Gray: Invitation to a Voyage).
Speaking about the shoot director and producer Shane Brennan of Moondance said; “It was difficult enough for the zookeepers to keep everything going as professionally and capably as they did but they really introduced their fans to a side of the zoo many of them will never have seen before, including many of the animals that are specially adapted to life in those kind of conditions. It was a real challenge to capture, but so worth it in the end.”
The Christmas special includes animals from colder climates such as the snowy owls, Amur tigers, grey wolves and snow leopards. It will be aired on RTE 1 at 6.30pm on December 28th.
