‘Knuckle’, a documentary about the travelling community and their bare-knuckle fighting tradition has gotten cinematic release in selected US over the weekend. The American distributors for the film are Arc Entertainment/Xlerator Media with Content Media dealing with international sales.
The documentary, which was a 12-year journey for director Ian Palmer, goes into the brutal and secretive world of Irish Traveler bare-knuckle fighting. It follows the history of violent feuding between rival clans, focusing on two brothers as they fight for their reputations and the honour of their family name.
Remake rights for the film were also picked up by HBO at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year which could see the television network turn the premise into a drama series.
‘Knuckle’ was produced by Teddy Leifer (The Interrupters, The Honeymoon Suite) for Rise Films and Ian Palmer for Seafield. It was financed by the Irish Film Board and BBC Storyville.
