Irish production company Moondance have announced a deal with Discovery Channel UK which means that RTÉ series ‘The Zoo’ will be aired on Animal Planet early next year.

The series, which follows the day to day lives of the zookeepers and animals in Dublin Zoo, has already been a success in Europe with series one and two being broadcast in Belgium and Holland at the moment, with over a million people tuning in every week on the main national channel VRT.

Speaking about the deal Shane Brennan, director and producer at Moondance said, “It just goes to show the enormous potential and appetite abroad for well-made Irish television programmes. We’re very proud of the series success and are keen to continue that over the next couple of seasons.”

The video editor for the show is Andrew Hearne; script editor is Niall Murphy, original music by Giles Packham and assistant producer John Higgins. The third series of ‘The Zoo’ will air on RTÉ in the spring. Mr Brennan spoke about the filming so far saying,“It’s been an incredible year in Dublin Zoo, with the opening up of new habitats and an amazing number of new births, so this season viewers are going to be treated to something really special.”
