The BBC has announced that Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One and Cheryl Taylor, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, have recommissioned a third series of BBC One’s In-House produced sit-com ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ which is produced in association with RTÉ.
’Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ follows the life of the misbehaving matriarch Agnes Brown played by Brendan O’Carroll (Angela’s Ashes, The Van) and her family life. The series, which is also written by O’Carroll, was originally created for theatrical production. The television series features a regular cast, including Brendan’s real-life wife Jennifer Gibney (Agnes Brown, Some Mother’s Son) as Cathy, his daughter Fiona O’Carroll as Maria, his son Danny O’Carroll (Angela’s Ashes, When The Sky Falls) as Buster and his sister Eilish O’Carroll as Winnie McGoogan.
Speaking about the recommission Danny Cohen said, “Mrs. Brown's Boys is a joyful, laugh-out-loud comedy that I'm delighted to have on BBC One. It's great news for us that we are extending our deal to a third series.”Brendan O’Carroll has called it “an extraordinary Christmas present” and quipped “the BBC must be mad.”
The BBC recorded audience figures of over four million earlier this year with the screening of the first series in the UK. Executive producer for BBC Scotland is Ewan Angus and Justin Healy for RTE. The series is produced by Stephen McCrum (BBC) and the Producer for BOCPIX is Martin Delany. The series is Executive produced by Mark Freeland (BBC) and directed by Ben Kellett.
The second series of 'Mrs. Brown’s Boys' will begin on BBC One in December with a Christmas Special.
