The International Short Film Festival in Leuven, Belgium which runs from the 3rd to the 10th of December will devote two programmes during the festival to the ‘Finest Irish Shorts’.
The programme covers a range of genres including drama, comedy, factual and animation. The first part of the ‘Finest Irish Shorts’ programme, which screens throughout the festival, will include Oscar nominated short ‘The Crush’ a story about a young boy who falls in love with his teacher directed by Michael Creagh.
‘Useless Dogs’, a short in which a farmer explains his frustrations with sheepdogs, directed by Ken Wardrop (His and Hers, The Herd); the IFTA winning ‘Six Shooter’ starring Brendan Gleeson (The Guard, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows; Part 2) and directed by Martin McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths, In Bruges) and the IFTA winning ‘Granny O Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’, a Brown Bag Films production directed by Nicky Phelan and starring stand up comedian Kathleen O Rourke, amoung other titles will also be screened.
The second programme will include such shorts as ‘Undressing My Mother’, the second short to be included in the festival by director Ken Wardrop, in which his mother speaks about life and love, from the bath. ‘Frankie’ by Darren Thornton (Love Is The Drug) tells the story of a young man trying to be a good father and the IFTA winning short film ‘The Door’ by Juanita Wilson (As If I’m Not There) about the Chernobyl tragedy through the eyes of one man Igor Sigov.
