'Parked' Scoops Mannheim-Heidelberg Festival Prize
22 Nov 2011 :
Parked
‘Parked’, the directorial debut from Irish director Darragh Byrne (Starstruck, The Suicide Club) starring Colm Meaney (The Perfect Stranger, Whole Lot of Sole) and Colin Morgan (Merlin) has won the top prize at the Mannheim-Heidelberg film festival, a festival dedicated to up and coming new directors. The award was collected by producer Dominic Wright and Colin Morgan at the festival on Sunday night.

‘Parked’ tells the story of Fred Daly, played by Meaney, who is unemployed and returns home to Ireland but has nowhere to live but his car. When a dope-smoking 21-year-old, Cathal O’Regan, played by Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Catherine Tate Show) parks beside him, the two develop an odd friendship.

‘Parked’ also won at both the Galway Best First Feature and the Audience Award in Brussels in July. Speaking about the win Dominic Wright of Ripple World Pictures told IFTN, “We are delighted and very grateful to the Mannheim festival, which is a great festival. We hope that this will help us get strong German distribution.”

The film was produced by Ripple World Pictures with the support of the Irish Film Board.
