Director Frank Kelly (Emily's Song, 140) has wrapped principal photography on his debut feature film ‘Derelict’ in Slane this week.

’Derelict’, which started principal photography at the end of September, tells the story of a group of men, down on their luck, who hold a bank manager's family hostage while robbing his bank. A dark thriller, the film is set in a derelict building it focuses on those in the building and the friction between the kidnappers themselves and the family.

The budget for the project was €6,500 and was independently funded with donations from the Drogheda community, as well as online through Kickstarter and with the directors own money. The cast included Michael Bates (The Escapist) as J. Steve Gunn (Titanic: Blood and Steel) as Davey-boy, Gerry Shanahan (Shackled) as Daniel, Patrick O'Donnell as Tone, Elaine Reddy (Slán agus Beannacht) as Kate, Catherine Wrigglesworth (Railway Children)as Louise, Rory Mullen (Portrait of a Zombie) as Laurence and Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones).

"I couldn't be happier with how things went,” Frank told IFTN,“admittedly my scheduling was a bit ambitious, which lead to long days and having to pick up some days later (there were two days of pick-ups in November), but everyone out did themselves, the cast and crew alike and because of their effort we have the film I set out to make, so I'm happy.”

Kelly also wrote, directed and will edit the film. Derelict was shot on an EX1 and two canon DSLR cameras. John Lawlor (3 Minute Gaps) was Director of Photography, with assistance from James Mullholland (Lose the Booze), also on lights, and Marie Valerie-Jeantelot, was production manager for the film. Richard Quinn produced with Susan Downey (Love is the Drug) on sound, Mary Ellen Dary on Make-up and Keith Ward (Five Day Shelter) on Stunts. Dermot O'Mahony (140) will compose the score.

‘Derelict’ will now begin preparation for post production at ‘The Element’ in January.
