RTÉ’s Young Peoples Programmes are seeking submission for a 10 x 3 minute VT insert for TRTÉ’s ‘elev8’.
‘evel8’ is a studio based live daily entertainment series for 7-11 year olds with video insert strands. Young Peoples Programming are currently seeking proposals to produce a 10 x 3 minute strand which will play out week to week on ‘elev8’ as a sports competition strand.
The brief is to produce a strand called ‘elev8 Superstars’. It is a series of sport mini-episode which see six young sports all-rounders (10-12 year olds) compete against each other in ten different sport disciplines - an ‘elev8’ kids decathlon. The eventual winner will take the title of ‘elev8’ Sports Superstars. Points are available to the winners and runners up of the events each week building a leader board across the ten episodes and ten sporting events. In the tenth week, the top three point scorers go head to head in one final competition to find the elev8 Superstar.
The same six competitors feature each week. In the three minute inserts, the six competitors should be set up – their age, likes, dislikes, interesting facts about them and how the competition is going for them etc. It’s important that the characters and personalities build over the series so that the audience forms attachments and loyalty to different competitors.
The budget for the video inserts is €40,000 and it is envisaged that the ten episodes could be block recorded over a few days at a suitable location which offers the required variety of facilities (eg. Rope-climbing, running, long-jump, cycling, rowing, swimming etc.). While the decathlon is a genuine sports competition, it could include some novelty challenges – perhaps involving mud, gunge or the like. Each competitor should have a team of supporters to cheer and offer support.
The Video Inserts will have to be delivered on digibeta by Friday December 16th. Submissions from producers should demonstrate an understanding of the target audience, the brief, an ability to engage strong production talent, a proposal that is realizable with reference to budget, time-scale and other key element and the production company must be able to illustrate a proven track record in production of programmes for Children/Young People.
