The stand-up and comedy sketch show ‘Sketchy’ returns to BBC One Northern Ireland, tonight, Wednesday 5th October at 10.35pm.

The six part series is produced by Green Inc Film & Television Production for BBC NI and was filmed in Northern Ireland from April to July 2011. Starring Co. Tyrone comedian and actor Diarmuid Corr, the show shares his unique observations of modern local life and includes a live stand-up element recorded in the BBC’s Blackstaff studios in Belfast.

Diarmuid’s stand-up routine tackles a wide range of themes from Northern Ireland’s new status as a “Golf Super Power” to his recent wedding in Sweden and his father’s resistance to getting a hearing aid. Returning comedy sketches include the loveable wandering folk musician “A Wander Wi Willie”, the namedropping property expert whose knowledge of the property game is almost as complex as his private life in “Prentice Spencer” and the super-hero who gets his own soap opera in “The Balls Fairy”.

Diarmuid also tackles new characters and sketches in the upcoming series such as no-nonsense Tyrone restaurant critic Maurice McDaid, and “The George Best Mysteries’. Series producer and co-writer is Keith Martin from Green Inc, who penned the series with Corr. Director George Kane also co-wrote material for the show, with Stephen Stewart and Chris Jones executive producing for Green Inc, and Justin Binding and Alan Tyler for BBC Northern Ireland.

"We have a big cast this year on Sketchy," said Diarmuid. "It's a fascinating mix of acting and comic talent from Northern Ireland and beyond. It's always fun making a comedy sketch show, but I got to work with some seriously talented people like Julie Maxwell, Patch Connolly, Richard Clements, Sarah Lyle and Karen Hassan from Hollyoaks.”

Other cast include Kevin O’Neill, Marc McElroy, Micky Bartlett, Michael Legge, Jordan Dunbar, Daniela Vanasco, Kerry Cleland, Libby Smith, Katie Larmour, Shane Todd and Ruaidhrí Ward.

"There are also a few fun cameos too so I’m sure local audiences will really warm to the actors and their characters as much as I had fun meeting and working with them. Some of the characters are so surreal, I found myself having the most bizarre conversations with the Director, while dressed in a pink tutu with a massive pair of fairy wings thinking to myself, I used to be a welder!"

The show was edited by George Kane and post production was completed at Yellowmoon post production. ’Sketchy’ will broadcast throughout the autumn on BBC One Northern Ireland.
