Irish Nominations at Prix Europa
16 Sep 2011 :
The Irish television projects nominated for the European Broadcasting Festival are Loosehorse’s ‘Welcome to my World’, Wildfire Films ‘The Crisis’ and ‘Life After Dell’.
Three Irish projects have been nominated for this year’s Prix Europa competition.

Produced by Fintan Welsh and directed by Diarmuid Goggins, Loosehorse’s ‘Welcome to my World: Nigeria’ features a Nigerian woman, Membe Orhena, who now lives in Galway with her fiancé Stephen Doggett and their two Children. Membe and Stephen travel to Membe’s rural home in Nigeria to receive her mother’s blessing for the marriage. It was nominated in the multicultural Television Iris category at the Prix Europa.

Series producer Trisha Canning of Loosehorse commented on the nomination saying ”We are delighted that ‘Welcome to my World’ has been nominated for these awards. The series captures a wonderful sense of the importance of home and clearly touched the hearts of thousands of Irish viewers as well as the international judges.” . The third series of Irish format ‘Welcome to my World’ was shown on RTÉ Television earlier this year.

Two projects from Wildfire films have been nominated, ‘An Crisis’ and ‘Life After Dell’. Fictional comedy series ‘An Crisis’ follows the downward spiral of ACT (An Chomhairle Teanga), an Irish language organisation that follows unusual policies. Cast in the series include Risteárd Cooper (Aprés Match), Kate Nic Chonaonaigh (The Clinic), Michelle Beamish (Seacht) and Donncha Crowley (Rásaí na Gaillimhe). The first series was written by Antoin Ó Flatharta (Anseo) with Charlie McCarthy (Pure Mule) acting as series director. Producer for Wildfire Films is Martha O’Neill (On Home Ground).

Wildfire’s second Prix Europa nomination is for their observational documentary ‘Life After Dell’, which looked at the lives of some of the former employees at the Limerick-based Dell plant, before its closure in 2009. The project was produced and directed by Adrian McCarthy.

The Prix Europa received 400 submissions to the television categories this year and the Irish nominations are among the 117 productions that have been nominated. The 25th annual Prix Europa Awards will take place in Berlin from the 22nd-29th October 2011.
