New Pre-School Animation 'Joe & Jack' Backed by MEDIA Funding

Irish animation project ‘Joe and Jack’ benefits from recent MEDIA funding Results. Cork Film Festival and training programme ‘Engage 5’ (IADT, Dun Laoghaire) also receive support.

The MEDIA Support for TV Broadcasting (deadline 28th February 2011) awarded 19 European Television Projects with €3.543 million. Irish Dancing Girl Productions’ ‘Joe and Jack’ has been awarded €189,000 from MEDIA.

Produced by Maeve McAdam and Villi Ragnarsson, the 39 x 7 minute preschool series follows Joe and his best friend Jack, who happens to be a cat. With two of the biggest imaginations possible, the two set out on adventures where their backyard becomes Candyland, the paddling pool next door transforms into treasure-laden waters and anything is possible. Stuart Shankley (Maggie and the Ferocious Beast) is directing.

’Joe and Jack’ was created by Corrina Askin and produced using Anime Studio Pro. Production began on the project in January of this year in A Man and Ink Studios in Galway and will be delivered in Summer 2012. It will be broadcast in RTÉ in Irish and English and is being distributed by CCI Entertainment, Canada. ‘Joe and Jack’ has received funding from MEDIA, RTÉ, IFB, Northern Ireland Screen, Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Section 481 and the BAI.

In other media news, MEDIA support for Audio-visual Festivals, following the second deadline (April) has given support to the Cork Film Festival. The Cork Film Festival takes place from the 6th-13th November 2011. In total, 23 European Festivals were given €756,850 in support.

MEDIA support for Initial Training projects includes ‘Engage 5’. ‘Engage 5’ is a training programme co-ordinated by Napier University in Edinburgh in partnership with Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dun Laoghaire, Tallinna Ulikooli Balti Filmi-Ja Meediakool in Estonia and Aalto University Finland.

MEDIA is the EU support programme for the European audiovisual industry. It finances the development of production projects (film, drama, documentary, animation and new media), training initiatives for audiovisual industry professional, promotion of European audiovisual projects and development of new technologies.
